Although penile implants have been around since the early 1970s, they’re not talked about very often by men. Before Viagra came on the market, penile implants were the most common treatment for men with erectile dysfunction (ED).
If you too are considering a penile implant, we’re sure you have questions. Lot’s of questions…
Below, we’ve put together a short Q&A to answer a few of the most common questions men have about penile implants, but might feel to uncomfortable to ask.
Q: Can I still have an orgasm?
A: Yes, you will still be able to have an orgasm and ejaculate if you were able to do so before surgery.
Q: What are the risks?
A: The biggest risk with a penile implant is infection. If an infection happens, the implant will need to be removed and a new implant may be put in. The risk of infection, however, is very rare.
Q: Will airport security be able to see my implant?
A: Yes, airport security will be able to see the implant, but it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Just let security know that you have an implant before going through.
Q: Is the implant uncomfortable?
A: For the first few weeks after you get the implant you may be able to feel it, but after that it will feel natural.
Q: How will the implant impact my ability to play sports/be active?
A: You will be able to do the same physical activities as you do currently. The penile implant should not impact your ability to play sports or be active.
Q: Can I still have a natural erection?
A: No, after the surgery you will not be able to have a natural erection.
Q: Will I lose penile length with the implant?
A: No, you should not lose any length with the implant.
